It is fall and with fall comes chilly knees! What better way to keep your knees warm that to wear leg warmers!? Plus you’ll still be able to wear dresses! Here I will explain how I made these DIY leg warmers out of an old sweater and some bra straps.
Cut the arms off of any old stumpy sweater with a cute pattern, fold over the raw edge you just cut and zigzag it down.
Find an old bra or tank top and cut off the straps. Wrap one around your thigh and trim it down leaving enough room to stitch it into a loop. Repeat with the other strap. Then stitch them into loops by simply overlapping them and zig-zagging on top.
This is what it should look like when you have finished securing it.
Now pin this elastic loop evenly to the top of the arm hole.
You can do this easily by starting with one pin and then dividing the remaining space in half and pinning while you stretch the elastic. repeat this until the elastic is secured all the way around the opening. I chose to pin the elastic about 3/4 inch down from the edge because i wanted a little bit of a ruffle coming out of the top of the leg warmers.
When you’re done it should look something like this.
Now all you gotta do is stretch as you sew!
and you’ll be left with lovely knee warming leg cozys!
Oh so cozy!
This is a super simple and quick DIY. It is not a new idea, but i do like the concept of using old bra straps as the elastic. Woohoo reusing old junk!
How do you guys keep your legs and knees warm in the winter?
