I’ve seen dark denim aprons all over “the net” (does anyone still call it that?) and I decided that I must have one.
After searching around I found a pattern that I like from Williams Sonoma. This apron is no longer available, so it is a perfect candidate for me to try to make! The pattern is simple, utilitarian and best of all long lasting (thank you hard wearing denim)! Once again at my local Goodwill outlet I scored a denim curtain that was originally in a little boys bedroom, complete with a soccer ball and baseball border around the top.
When you have one large piece of fabric like this it makes this project really easy. I just measured out how wide i wanted it to be at the top and around the waist and cut it out accordingly. Referencing my inspiration photo frequently.
I managed to use the existing hem of the fabric for my ties which I attached at the waist and the neck.
I decided to make the stitching resemble that of a pair of denim pants (matching the hem) with contrasting bright yellow orange thread on blue.
I used 2 keyrings as a makeshift D-rings so that I can tighten and loosen the neck until I can salvage some from another project.
I also wanted to have super oversized denim pockets. To make sure it was easy for me to shove my hands in my pockets I brought the top of the pocket fabric in towards the center of the pockets, opening it up a bit. I then Hemmed everything and voilà! A sturdy work apron.
What are your favourite types of aprons?
