Materials to make your own DIY Washi Tape include;
- A stack of old magazines / wrapping paper
- double sided tape
- sharp scissors
Step 1) Find a pattern you like
look through your magazines and pull out all the pages that have repetative patterns that you can link up end to end. You dont necessacarily need to do this if you want to make short washi tape pieces (like I did). I use mine for the top and bottom of my bullet journal pages so they only needed to be about 5 inches long. If this is the case for you as well then this opens up a whole new range of what you can use.
I actually had an old calendar that I kept forever because it had loads of lovely little floral patterns. Because it was a calendar I got lots of long continuous pieces of washi tape out of it.
Step 2) Line up and adhere double sided tape
What I like to do is cut off all of the portion of the page that I dont want to use. This gives you a straight line to match your tape up to. Make sure that as you apply the double sided tape slowly to the back of the page while pressing evenly to ensure no bubbles or wrinkles form. Now you must slice off the remaining paper and you have yourself a wiece of washi tape. If you wish to make a longer strip of washi then you must repeat this step so that your seams between the page strips look good. This is easy with skyscapes and clouds ive found.
It is much easier to keep the plactic backing on the tape until you are ready to use it. Because the adhesive is so strong you pretty much only get one chace at applying it anywhere.
Do you guys use washi tape? What for?
